Last updated: February 21, 2026

Consent to Veterinary Teleconsultation Services

By accepting this agreement, you consent to receiving veterinary teleconsultation services through the Beam Telepet platform. This document outlines the nature, benefits, limitations, and risks of teleconsultation services so that you can make an informed decision.

What is a TeleConsult?

A TeleConsult is a virtual veterinary consultation conducted through secure video, audio, or messaging technology. It allows a licensed veterinarian to evaluate your pet, provide professional advice, and where appropriate, recommend treatment plans without the need for an in-person clinic visit.

Scope of TeleConsult Services

Through our teleconsultation platform, our veterinarians may:

  • Assess your pet's symptoms and condition based on visual observation and information you provide
  • Provide general wellness advice and guidance
  • Recommend treatment plans, including medications where clinically appropriate
  • Issue prescriptions electronically to participating pharmacies
  • Provide follow-up care and monitoring
  • Refer you to in-person veterinary care when necessary

Benefits of Teleconsultation

  • Convenient access to licensed veterinary care from your home
  • Reduced stress for your pet by avoiding travel and clinic environments
  • Timely professional guidance for non-emergency concerns
  • Easy follow-up consultations for ongoing conditions

Limitations and Risks

You understand and acknowledge that:

  • Teleconsultation is not a substitute for in-person veterinary examination in all cases. The veterinarian cannot physically examine your pet and relies on the information and visuals you provide.
  • There may be limitations due to technology, including poor video or audio quality, connectivity issues, or equipment malfunctions that could affect the consultation.
  • The veterinarian may determine that teleconsultation is not appropriate for your pet's condition and may refer you to an in-person clinic.
  • Delays in evaluation or treatment could occur due to technical difficulties or limitations inherent in virtual care.
  • In rare cases, a lack of access to complete medical records or physical examination findings could result in incomplete assessment.

Not for Emergencies

Teleconsultation services are NOT intended for emergency situations. If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, including but not limited to difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, poisoning, trauma, seizures, or loss of consciousness, you must contact your local emergency veterinary clinic immediately. Do not use this platform to seek emergency care.

Your Responsibilities

By consenting to teleconsultation, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information about your pet's health, symptoms, and medical history
  • Ensure your pet is visible and accessible during the consultation as directed by the veterinarian
  • Maintain a stable internet connection and use a device with a functioning camera and microphone
  • Follow the veterinarian's recommendations, including seeking in-person care when advised
  • Inform the veterinarian of any changes in your pet's condition following the consultation

Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR)

A teleconsultation through Beam Telepet may establish or continue a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) in accordance with provincial regulations in Ontario, Canada. The veterinarian will determine whether a VCPR can be appropriately established or maintained through virtual means for your specific situation.

Prescriptions

Where a valid VCPR exists and it is clinically appropriate, the veterinarian may issue prescriptions electronically. Some medications may require a prior in-person examination. The veterinarian retains sole discretion over prescribing decisions.

Recording and Confidentiality

Teleconsultations may be documented in your pet's medical record. Any recordings, notes, or data collected during the consultation are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA). You agree not to record the consultation without the prior consent of all parties.

Withdrawal of Consent

You may withdraw your consent to teleconsultation services at any time by notifying us in writing at info@beamtelepet.ca. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the validity of services provided prior to the withdrawal. Please note that withdrawal may limit our ability to provide ongoing virtual care for your pet.

Applicable Law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the regulations set forth by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). Any disputes arising from this agreement shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
